On Friday, November 2, 2007 Skip Fennell, President of National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) will speak at the Memorial Student Center on the campus of Marshall University in Huntington, WV.  There are two sessions. 

At 9:00-10:00 a.m. he will highlight the NCTM K-8 Focal Points that were released just over a year ago.  The Focal Points are a helpful tool to states as they retool their mathematics standards.  President Fennell will also discuss the status of the NCTM’s current work on developing a similar document for grades 9-12. 

At 10:15 – 11:15 a.m, President Fennell will deliver the Keynote Address for the Appalachian Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators Third Annual Conference. 

Attendance at these two sessions is open to all individuals interested in mathematics education, including teachers, supervisors, administrators, parents and others.  Please share this information with others.

CCTM’s Fall conference

CCTM is offering some very informative sessions relating to math for all grade levels.  This is a great opportunity for teachers to receive 3 hours of math professional development.  There are several session begin offered regarding technology (SMARTBoard, TI-Navigator, TI-Nspire and others)  and its use in the classroom, teaching to different learning styles and remember this math conference is not just for High School math teachers!  There are some excellent presentations that are specifically for Primary and Elementary teachers (K-5) and Middle School!  Plus, there will be some great door prizes given away at the end of the night.

The Cumberland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (CCTM) will be hosting their annual Fall Conference on Thursday, November 8, 2007, at North Laurel High School in London, KY.  Session topics include the use of SMARTBoard technology in the classroom and effective use of graphing calculators including TI-Navigator and the new TI-Nspire.  In addition there will be sessions about teaching to different learning styles and a variety of other topics for all grade levels.  If you are interested in attending and/or presenting at the CCTM Fall Conference, links to the appropriate forms are below.  For questions, contact Deborah King: phone 606-376-5051; email  debbie.king@mccreary.kyschools.us
